Story is king --- Satish Pilangwad

New film production company Karrm Movies is the talk of the town nowadays as its first Hindi film Badlapur Boys is all set to release in November.

Why it's the trending topic is also because Badlapur Boys is based on India's rustic game Kabaddi. Here are some excerpts from an interview with Satish Pilangwad from Karrm Movies-

Tell us more about Badlapur Boys.
Badlapur Boys is the first Hindi film of our production house Karrm Movies. We're here with the ambition of making innumerable good movies and this is the first movie on that front, based on India's favorite country sport Kabaddi, a game which we've all enjoyed in our childhood and which is becoming vague rapidly. Known for being the writer of film Veer, Shailesh Verma, who is the director of this film, told us this story which we loved and we decided to make a film on it because through it, we want to give out a strong message to the people.
This film features Annu Kapoor, Nisshan, Sharanya Mohan, Puja Gupta, Kishori Shahane, Boloram Das, Nitin Jadhav, Shashank Udaypurkar, Mazhar Khan, Ankit Sharma and Vineet, among others.

Film's director, most of the actors and a music composer are all new. Isn't that a huge risk, considering whether the audience will turn up or not?
When a film does not have a Khan or a Kapoor, the most important thing it needs is a good story, and that's exactly what we have and we believe that the audience will appreciate the film as everybody has given their best to their respective roles.

What is the role of Annu Kapoor and why is he not being seen in any of the promotions?
He is playing the role of a coach of a Kabaddi team, which is a very powerful role. About his absence from the promotions, I think Annuji is busy in promoting his other film which is also releasing on the same day, so he is unable to spare time for this film.

Music is a very crucial aspect of any film nowadays. How is the music of Badlapur Boys?
The music of Badlapur Boys has been composed by three very talented music directors, Shamir Tandon, Sachin Gupta and debutante Raju Sardar. The lyrics have been beautifully written by Samir Anjaan, which have been sung by the melodious voices of Sukhwinder Sing, Shaan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali, Ritu Pathak. And these songs have been choreographed by the ever graceful Saroj Khan.

Recently, Karrm movies presented a cheque of 5 lac to the captain of Kabaddi team Rakesh Kumar from the hands of legend Dharmendra. What was the motive behind that?
We have made a movie on Kabaddi. The film's music had to be released, and it was a fortunate coincidence that the Indian Kabaddi teams won the gold medals in the Asian Games in the men and women category. So we thought it a good idea to felicitate them on our level and we had Dharmendraji with us, which was just very fortuitous.

When is the film releasing?
Badlapur Boys is releasing on 7th November in around 500 screens in the country and internationally. We don't want to leave any stone unturned.

What next after Badlapur Boys?
The next film from this banner of Karrm Movies is in Marathi and is called Razzakar and stars the superstar of Marathi films Siddharth Jadhav and the super villain of today's Bollywood Zakir Hussain. It has been written and directed by Raj Durge, who has written successful Marathi movies, although it is still too early to talk about Razzakar right now.

Puja Gupta, but which one?

Actress Puja Gupta is a trending topic in every conversation nowadays, for her new film Badlapur Boys' release date is right around the corner. Made under the banner of Karrm movies, this film has been produced by Satish Pillangwad and its director is Shailesh Verma. Puja is playing the role of Manjari in this Kabaddi based film.

Having had completed her studies from the United States, Puja began her acting journey with versatile actor Paresh Rawal's play Kishan Vs. Kanhaiya, after which she acted in various other plays. She has acted in Chitakbrey - The Shades Of Grey (2011), Blood Money (2012), Vicky Donor (2012), OMG!-Oh My God! (2012), Mickey Virus (2013), among other films.

All of Puja's films have been successful, but the audience is a little puzzled about who she is as there's another actress with the same name right here in Bollywood.

Annu Kapoor Missing!

Where is the famous Antakshri anchor and actor Annu Kapoor? His film Badlapur Boys' release date is fast approaching but he seems to be missing from its promotions. Is the Badlapur Boys team upset with its coach, or is it the other way round? Or maybe Annu is too busy.

"Recently, when the film's music was launched by Dharamji (Dharmendra), I personally went to invite Annu for the event, but he didn't turn up.", says Satish Pilangwad, the film's producer about Annu Kapoor not being a part of its promotions.

7 November will see the release of two of Annu Kapoor's films, one being The Shaukeens, which is the remake of yesteryear film Shaukeen, in which he plays the role of a lovestruck senior citizen who goes onto wooing a much younger lady, and the other film is Badlapur Boys, produced under the banner of Karrm Movies, this film is based on the true to the roots game and spirit of Kabaddi.

Hard Kaur's Aashiq Mizaaj

As interesting as it would be to learn about Hard Kaur's bindas-Aashiq nature, that is not what we're talking about. But in fact, about a new aspect of the otherwise well known rapper, this time, Hard Kaur, the music director and her new song 'Aashiq Mizaaj' from the film The Shaukeens

Her talent to not only rap and sing, but to also compose music from scratch to the end note was recognized by producer Ashwin Varde and actor Akshya Kumar.

This song 'Aashiq Mizaaj' has actually made listeners overcome with love for the peppiness in it and it has been sung by Aman Trikha. Remake of the yesteryear film Shaukeen (1982), this song from film The Shaukeens has been picturized on three shaukeens. After listening to this song, listeners will not be able to withhold appreciation for Hard Kaur as a music director.

There's more to come from this new music director on the block and we can surely expect new tunes composed by Hard Kaur in upcoming movies.

Kabaddi now on the big screen in Badlapur Boys

Kabaddi is in full form at the moment in the country, what with the commendable winning of gold medals in the Asian Games by the Indian Kabaddi teams in Men and Women's categories, and before this, Bollywood biggies went all out to promote awareness about Kabaddi, all of which has only increased the popularity of this rustic and true to the roots sport. With all this already going on, a feature film solely based on Kabaddi is nothing but a cherry on top.

Set to release in November, this film is called Badlapur Boys. Films based in a village background are very rare but the exceptions have all fared well, one of which is Lagaan, which is noteworthy because of its village background and sport being its highlight, as is Badlapur Boys

Produced by Karrm Movies, Badlapur Boys is a film about some boys of Badlapur village, who breathe and live Kabaddi and aspire to make a name out of the game, not only of themselves, but their village. However, the protagonist's dream, although patronizes Kabaddi, is slightly different and it binds the film right till the end.

What this passionate, yet secret dream is will be revealed only once you see the movie, but what's worth mentioning is how well Annu Kapoor has played the role of a Kabaddi coach in the film. The hero of the film, Nishshan, has acted in the film David and Subhash Ghai's Cycle Kick, along with many other Malyalam movies. Badlapur Boys also stars Sharanya Mohan, who has acted in more than 16 South Indian movies as the main lead and this is her first Hindi film.

Although this is the directorial debut of the film's director Shailesh Verma, he has written various daily soaps and movies, important among which is Salman Khan starrer Veer. He is set to start with his next movie right after the release of Badlapur Boys.

Actress Kishori Shahane, who has done a tremendous job playing the hero's mother, needs no introduction. Pooja Gupta, who has starred in Vicky Donor, Mickey Virus and Oh My God, is also a part of the film.

Badlapur Boys is Karrm Movies' first Hindi film. Their Marathi film Razakar is also ready to release. Karrm Movies plan to make as many movies as possible.

Other artistes in Badlapur Boys are Boloram Das, Nitin Jadhav, Shashank Udaypurkar, Mazhar Khan, Ankit Sharma, Vineet, among many more.

Music has been composed by Shamir Tandon and Sachin Gupta. Words to the melodies have been given by lyricist Sameer Anjaan, which have been sung by singers Sukhwinder Singh, Shaan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali, Ritu Pathak. Choreography has been done by Saroj Khan.
