My character is a goody two shoes in 'Badlapur Boys' - Nishan

Well known Malayalam heartthrob actor Nishan Nanaiah is all set to pave his way through to the hearts of Bollywood with film Badlapur Boys. He has played the role of a villager youth named Vijay in the movie.

Talking about this Kabaddi based film Badlapur Boys, Nishan says, "The film seems realistic in just a single glance because all the characters are simple and true. It is a story about some boys in a village who know nothing else but Kabaddi and who do nothing else but play Kabaddi. They keep losing to other villages and are a laughing stock for the people but they are too lost in the game to stop playing. And right with this madness for the game, these boys do something that changes the history of their village."

Nishan, who debuted in Malayalam film Ritu in the year 2009, was a Tennis player in his University days and has now played the role of a Kabaddi player. So, how was the experience of playing Kabaddi in Badlapur Boys?
He says, "It was great fun, but with its own share of bruises and injuries. We were trained by a professional Kabaddi coach. I'm very hopeful that the audience will enjoy Badlapur Boys' Kabaddi."

Having acted in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies, Nishan's character in Badlapur Boys is that of a goody two shoes, simple guy and in real life, too, he seems shy and reserved. Is it the influence of his character or is he like that in real life? His answer to this question is just a sincere smile.

Nishan completed his acting training from Pune Film Institute and acted in his debut film Ritu, which was critically acclaimed and won Nishan the award for best debut for the year 2009. His second film Apoorvaragam (2010) was in theaters for 100 days.

Made by Karrm Movies, Badlapur Boys has been produced by Satish Pillangwad and directed by Shailesh Verma. It releases on 12th December.

Is Saranya lucky for Kabaddi?

Versatile South Indian actress Saranya Mohan is making her debut in Bollywood
with Karrm Movies' film Badlapur Boys.

Badlapur Boys is a story about the sports of Kabaddi. It's purely coincidental that Saranya starred in Tamil film Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu in 2009, as well as in Telugu film Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu in 2010, as the female lead. Both these films, as their names suggest, are based on Kabaddi and were instant hits. And now in 2014 again, Saranya Mohan is the leading lady of Badlapur Boys, yet another film based on Kabaddi.

It is safe to say that Saranya Mohan is the lucky charm of Kabaddi when it comes to movies. Will she prove to be lucky for the third time with Badlapur Boys? Badlapur Boys has been produced by Karrm Movies and directed by Shailesh Verma. It is releasing on 12th December.

Badlapur Boys, which has been produced under the banner of Karrm Movies, is based on the sport of Kabaddi. Here are some excerpts from an interview conducted with Kishori Shahane, about her upcoming film-

Tell us about Badlapur Boys.
Badlapur Boys is based on the game of Kabaddi. It's an age old game in our country but we're all waking up only just now. Tournaments are being conducted and films are being made on it. The film has been made under Karrm Movies and its director is Shailesh Verma. I share the screen with talented actors Nishan, Saranya Mohan, Puja Gupta, Annu Kapoor, Boloram Das, Nitin Jadhav, Shashank Udaypurkar, Mazhar Khan, Ankit Sharma and Vineet.

What is your role in the film?
I'm playing the role of the mother of the protagonist, played by Nishan. My character is an extremely strong one, who sing brings up her son all by herself, after her husband's death and shows him the right path. I'm playing such a character after ages in a Hindi film.

Do you think the audience will like the film?
Yes, I do think so, because statistically speaking, movies made on sports in the recent times have been highly appreciated, whether it be Bhaag Milkha Bhaag or Mary Kom. Besides, Kabaddi is a game that everyone has played at least once in their life. I'm hopeful that the audience will enjoy and appreciate the film.

The audience has welcomed your show Everest with open arms...
It feels great when the audience likes your work. Ashutosh Gowariker has done a great job on the show.

You had taken part in the Mrs. Gladrags Beauty Pageant?
Yes, I had taken part in the pageant in 2003 and was crowned runner up. I was also crowned with Miss Mithibai Beauty award in my college days.

You're an actor, balancing between films, theater and television shows. Not to mention, you're also a graceful dancer. How do you manage?
Where there's a will, there's a way. It all falls into place.

Veer's writer Shailesh Verma turns director

Based on the popular game of Kabaddi, film Badlapur Boys is all set to release soon. Set in a village environment, this film has been written and directed by Shailesh Verma, the same Shailesh Verma who has penned down various serials as well as movies, including Salman Khan's Veer. Made under the banner of Karrm Movies, Badlapur Boys is Verma's directorial debut. Here are some excerpts from an interview with him where he excitedly chats about his first film as a director-

· Tell us something about Badlapur Boys.
Badlapur Boys is set in a rural background and is based on the rustic game of Kabaddi. It's a story about some boys that the villagers find useless and without a future as they're always playing Kabaddi and losing at it. But the boys are passionate about earning a name and doing something good for the village through the game of Kabaddi.

· Why did you think of making a film on Kabaddi?
Kabaddi takes you right back to the roots. Not only I, but I'm sure everyone loves it. The film's story is the kind that is heart warming and I hope it serves its purpose. It's an out and out commercial film, with dancing , songs,  romance and a whole load of fun. Here I'd like to clarify that my film Badlapur Boys is not a documentary.

· Will the audience like the film?
Yes, of course. Films like Lagaan, Chak De! India, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom, which were based on sports were widely appreciated. And nowadays, there's a new life in the topic of Kabaddi, with the commencement of tournaments like Pro Kabaddi League.

· Almost all the artists in your film are new, any special reason behind that?
Yes, I wanted new faces and raw talent for the story of my film. Although some artists have acted in a lot of movies previously, too, like Annu Kapoor, who is playing the role of a coach in my film. Besides him, Nisshan, who is the protagonist, has acted in movies like David and Subhash Ghai's Cycle Kick, and various Malayalam films. Followed by Puja Gupta, who has acted in Vicky Donor, Mickey Virus and OMG! Oh My God! Sharanya Mohan has been a part of more than 16 South Indian films as the female lead and this is her first Hindi film. Actress Kishori Shahane needs no introduction.

· Did you train the film's artists in Kabaddi?

Yes, although it was a difficult task, after a month's training from a Kabaddi coach, everyone was ready to play Kabaddi.

Story is king --- Satish Pilangwad

New film production company Karrm Movies is the talk of the town nowadays as its first Hindi film Badlapur Boys is all set to release in November.

Why it's the trending topic is also because Badlapur Boys is based on India's rustic game Kabaddi. Here are some excerpts from an interview with Satish Pilangwad from Karrm Movies-

Tell us more about Badlapur Boys.
Badlapur Boys is the first Hindi film of our production house Karrm Movies. We're here with the ambition of making innumerable good movies and this is the first movie on that front, based on India's favorite country sport Kabaddi, a game which we've all enjoyed in our childhood and which is becoming vague rapidly. Known for being the writer of film Veer, Shailesh Verma, who is the director of this film, told us this story which we loved and we decided to make a film on it because through it, we want to give out a strong message to the people.
This film features Annu Kapoor, Nisshan, Sharanya Mohan, Puja Gupta, Kishori Shahane, Boloram Das, Nitin Jadhav, Shashank Udaypurkar, Mazhar Khan, Ankit Sharma and Vineet, among others.

Film's director, most of the actors and a music composer are all new. Isn't that a huge risk, considering whether the audience will turn up or not?
When a film does not have a Khan or a Kapoor, the most important thing it needs is a good story, and that's exactly what we have and we believe that the audience will appreciate the film as everybody has given their best to their respective roles.

What is the role of Annu Kapoor and why is he not being seen in any of the promotions?
He is playing the role of a coach of a Kabaddi team, which is a very powerful role. About his absence from the promotions, I think Annuji is busy in promoting his other film which is also releasing on the same day, so he is unable to spare time for this film.

Music is a very crucial aspect of any film nowadays. How is the music of Badlapur Boys?
The music of Badlapur Boys has been composed by three very talented music directors, Shamir Tandon, Sachin Gupta and debutante Raju Sardar. The lyrics have been beautifully written by Samir Anjaan, which have been sung by the melodious voices of Sukhwinder Sing, Shaan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali, Ritu Pathak. And these songs have been choreographed by the ever graceful Saroj Khan.

Recently, Karrm movies presented a cheque of 5 lac to the captain of Kabaddi team Rakesh Kumar from the hands of legend Dharmendra. What was the motive behind that?
We have made a movie on Kabaddi. The film's music had to be released, and it was a fortunate coincidence that the Indian Kabaddi teams won the gold medals in the Asian Games in the men and women category. So we thought it a good idea to felicitate them on our level and we had Dharmendraji with us, which was just very fortuitous.

When is the film releasing?
Badlapur Boys is releasing on 7th November in around 500 screens in the country and internationally. We don't want to leave any stone unturned.

What next after Badlapur Boys?
The next film from this banner of Karrm Movies is in Marathi and is called Razzakar and stars the superstar of Marathi films Siddharth Jadhav and the super villain of today's Bollywood Zakir Hussain. It has been written and directed by Raj Durge, who has written successful Marathi movies, although it is still too early to talk about Razzakar right now.

Puja Gupta, but which one?

Actress Puja Gupta is a trending topic in every conversation nowadays, for her new film Badlapur Boys' release date is right around the corner. Made under the banner of Karrm movies, this film has been produced by Satish Pillangwad and its director is Shailesh Verma. Puja is playing the role of Manjari in this Kabaddi based film.

Having had completed her studies from the United States, Puja began her acting journey with versatile actor Paresh Rawal's play Kishan Vs. Kanhaiya, after which she acted in various other plays. She has acted in Chitakbrey - The Shades Of Grey (2011), Blood Money (2012), Vicky Donor (2012), OMG!-Oh My God! (2012), Mickey Virus (2013), among other films.

All of Puja's films have been successful, but the audience is a little puzzled about who she is as there's another actress with the same name right here in Bollywood.
